Visible mold removal and cleanup covers the mold you can actually see – on wood framing, drywall, insulation, or other surfaces and the process of safely removing it without spreading spores through the rest of the house or crawl space.
Homeowners in Massapequa Park, NY call for this after spotting dark or discolored patches on wood, drywall, or insulation, usually in a crawl space, basement, attic, or around a spot where there's been water damage. Sometimes it's found during a home inspection before a sale, sometimes it's just something noticed while doing other work under the house.
We start by containing the area to keep spores from spreading to unaffected parts of the home, then physically remove contaminated material, that might mean scrubbing and treating a wood surface, or removing and replacing insulation and drywall that's too far gone to save. HEPA vacuums and air scrubbers run throughout the job to capture airborne spores before they settle somewhere new. Once material is removed, remaining surfaces get treated with an antimicrobial solution to kill anything left behind and help prevent regrowth.
Cost depends on how much area is affected and whether material needs to be removed and replaced or just cleaned and treated. A small patch of surface mold on framing is a quick job – mold that's spread through drywall or insulation takes more time and material.
Keep in mind, removing visible mold without fixing the moisture that caused it is a temporary win. We'll always check for the source while we're there.
